i finally have a place to use these speakers. i'm going to do movie nights in an old church building. it's 70' x 100' x 45' . they used to have some kind of altecs built into the front walls when i was a kid. sounded great then. they moved into a bigger building 10 years ago. the only sucky part is they closed in the balcolny :(
now i need a good projector and a screen. the first movie i'm going to do is starwars. because when it came out the theaters i went to see it in, were still using altecs. i figure i could start out with bugs bunny with marvin the martian, then maybe ren and stimpys "space madness". i can't wait. :)
I went to see the new Star Trek movie last night. Great movie...sucky sound. Really sucky. Do you think they'd mind if I brought my own speakers?
I think J.J. Abrams (director of the new Star Trek movie) is a genius. I loved his t.v. show "Fringe" and now own it on DVD. My wife and I are going to see the new Star Trek film at our "local" drive-in theater (out in the "country" -- 30 minute drive from our home). The drive in broadcasts the movie's sound over FM stereo so if you have a good car stereo system the movie sounds great! I've got a great car stereo system, but wouldn't have minded borrowing Altec Best's "Voice of the Highway" speakers for the movie! They've come a long ways from the drive in movies I remember as a kid--where they'd hang that little tinny sounding speaker on your car window!
We saw "Oz The Great and Powerful" earlier this week at a local theater. My wife picked the film and I figured it would be OK. It turned out to be the best movie I've seen in ages--I can't recommend it highly enough. However, the sound system in the movie theater wasn't very good---I remember thinking how much better it would sound on DVD or Blu Ray in my living room with the Model 14's.....
I keep trying to watch JJ's last Star Trek, but keep having seizures and throwing up.
so they're for the most part done. all i need to do is either mount the horns on the top or build separate boxes. i think they would sound better in boxes and i hate to drill holes in the top. over all i really like the way the composite flanges came out. i still have some testing to do with the port. but man,,, these things will either impress or drive the neighbors insane. :D
